This modern, multi storied dwelling has a small open topped space off one of the main bedrooms. It should have been really charming but instead, put you in mind of a prison cell.
The previous tenants had moved out and the owner wanted to recreate the space, giving the next lessees a big hint as to what an asset the area could be. Because the property is close to a beach, it was decided a seascape was called for. The proportions of the space being so rigid, I suggested a warm, misty, relaxed composition would be most appropriate.
There are always time constraints on a mural job but this one was even more pressing than usual. Christmas was looming, I had another mural job pending and I had to get a wriggle on.
This mural was finished in two and a half days flat. It's made a huge difference to the space. It's also unique in an unexpected way. The surface I was painting on was quite textured and I found every time the light changed there were changes in the painting itself. Sometimes the yacht race was way off in the distance and really faint and misty. In other light the yacht race seems to be a great deal closer.
You can't get bored with a painting that's so naturally it changes all the time.
